ISDN (Integration Services Digital Network)
Is a digital telephone service, which provides a dial-up into the customer’s premises. It can be used for voice, video and data transfer and will connect to any other ISDN or PSTN line. The high-speed 64Kbps connection makes it ideal for sending images or other information across the network and you only pay call charges while you are using the lines. Applications include sending large volumes of data between networks, Internet access, video and desktop conferencing and LAN access. ISDN 2e has a digital line with two 64Kbps channels which connect your office switchboard to the exchange. As a rough rule of thumb, if you need more than 8 channels you should look at ISDN 30, which provides up to 30 independent 64Kbps channels. Both types can have additional services added to them such as Direct Dialling Inward (DDI). This is particularly useful if you want calls to go to specific extensions or groups of extensions.
Wireless LAN
In certain business environments a physical cable is not the correct media for a LAN. Wireless LANs can provide a flexible data communication system replacing a wired LAN within a building or campus. WLANs use electromagnetic waves to transmit and receive data over the air, minimising the need for wired connections. This can help to improve mobility. See what Cisco have to say>> (wlan_overview1)
INTERNET
Businesses which have taken the plunge for broadband services report increased sales, greater cost savings, better productivity, improved employee satisfaction and a healthier bottom line overall as a result. And this is just the beginning…
Remember that word convergence - well this is what the internet protocol is providing as an extension of your own local area network
Your network has the power to: • protect itself and safeguard your business • unify your communications • unleash your workforce • access critical data when you need it It's your network. All you have to do is unlock it.
Before buying broadband analyse these 4 points. It's not always about increased speed. Security is just as important.
NO SPEED LIMIT
even higher speed broadband services are available to meet the increasing demands of organisations. Why would you need even faster speeds? Quality and efficiency. This will provide additional services such as video conferencing to desktop, digital television, and video-on-demand.
" Take full advantage of broadband's always on, high speed access capabilities, saving time and effort downloading and transferring large digital files. " Take your goods and services online and into a global marketplace. " Offer new services such as online ordering, account management and electronic payments to your customers, employees and suppliers. " Extend your internal networks and email systems to encompass remote offices, teleworkers and home workers. " Tailor the bandwidth that employees can use to suit the specific needs of the job. " Get better performance and value from existing systems and software. " Predict and manage costs effectively.
