Regulatory Bodies


ICSTIS is the Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services, regulating the content and promotion of premium rate telephone services.


OFCOM, the new super regulator for communications is due to be established in late 2003 - early 2004. OFCOM's task will be the regulation of the fast converging telecommunications and broadcasting sectors as a replacement for Oftel (Office of Telecommunications), the Independent Television Commission, the Broadcasting Standards Commission, the Radio Authority and the Radio communications Agency.


OFTEL is the Office of Telecommunications and acts as the regulator for the UK telecommunications industry. Set up under the 1984 Telecommunications Act, its goal is to ensure consumers receive the best quality, choice and value for money for all telephone services.
IARN The International Audiotex Regulators Network, previously known as EARN, encourages the exchange of information about the regulation of the audiotex industry and looks at how regulation is approached in various countries.
